What E1 Means
On Thermador Pro ranges, E1 most often means a Star Burner failed to ignite within the expected window. On some models it can instead mean the control board can't access its configuration and calibration data (EEPROM).
Common Causes of E1
- Dirty, wet, or misaligned igniter electrode
- Burner port blocked with grease or food debris
- Control board EEPROM/configuration fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clean the affected igniter and burner cap with a dry cotton swab (moisture can prevent sparking), confirm the burner cap is seated correctly, and check that the gas supply valve is fully open.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If cleaning the igniter doesn't resolve it, testing the spark module involves line-voltage electronics near an active gas supply.
- Repeated ignition attempts without addressing the root cause can allow unburned gas to accumulate briefly at the burner — stop and ventilate if you ever smell gas.
- Misdiagnosing an EEPROM/configuration fault as an igniter problem means replacing the wrong, more expensive component (the control board) for nothing.
- A burner cap reseated even slightly off-center can produce uneven flame that looks like a different fault entirely.
- Control board access for EEPROM-related faults typically voids the remaining warranty.
