Star Burner igniters are largely mechanical, which means a small amount of routine care prevents a meaningful share of avoidable service calls.
Clean Gently, and Only When Dry
Wipe the igniter electrode with a dry cotton swab after it’s cooled — moisture is one of the most common reasons an igniter won’t spark, since even light dampness from cleaning can short the circuit.
Keep Burner Ports Clear
Grease and food debris in the burner ports restrict gas flow and are a leading cause of the clicking-but-not-lighting symptom that shows as E1.
Don’t Force a Wet Igniter
If you’ve just cleaned with a damp cloth, let everything dry fully before attempting to light a burner.
When to Call
If cleaning doesn’t resolve it, or if you ever smell gas, stop and book a range repair visit rather than continuing to try.
