What D or E Message Means
The troubleshooting table in Thermador's French-door guide says that when a message beginning with "D" or "E" appears on the display, the electronics have detected a problem. Thermador does not publish what each individual number means.
Common Causes of D or E Message
- A temperature sensor reading out of range
- A fan, damper, ice maker or valve the control board could not confirm
- A communication problem between the control and power electronics
- A brief power disturbance, which clears after the reset
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Follow the guide's reset: switch the appliance off, disconnect it from power at the plug or breaker, wait 5 minutes and reconnect. Write down the full message first, because the same message returning after the reset is what a technician needs to know.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Thermador's own instruction for a message that survives the reset is to call for service; the individual codes are only interpreted with service documentation and test equipment.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
