What Self-Test Means

The 800-era IF column guide describes an appliance self-test: messages show in turn, and if a problem is found the ALARM symbol comes on with an error message (the guide gives a sensor error as its example). If everything passes, the set temperature returns.

Common Causes of Self-Test

  • A temperature sensor out of range
  • Another monitored part the control flagged during the test

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Run it as Thermador describes: switch off and wait 5 minutes, switch on with the door closed, then hold SETUP and ALARM OFF together for 5 seconds. Write down any message shown at the end.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Thermador's instruction is to pass the error message to a servicer; the self-test identifies a part but does not fix it.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Self-Test FAQ

Yes. It only needs the door kept closed, and the column goes back to its set temperature afterward.

The same guide uses SETUP plus ALARM OFF for 3 seconds as a factory reset, so hold them for the full 5 seconds with the unit freshly powered on.
