What Door Alarm Means

An alarm, not a failure. Thermador's French-door guide (T36BT110NS, T36BT120NS, T36IT100NP) says a warning tone sounds and "Door Alarm" appears when a door has been open for a while; the Freedom column guides describe the same alert as a continuous tone, and the older IF freezer columns start it after one minute.

Common Causes of Door Alarm

  • A door or freezer drawer left ajar
  • A bin, shelf edge or package keeping the door from sealing
  • A custom panel or Freedom hinge out of adjustment so the door no longer closes flush
  • A failed door switch or sensor reporting "open" when the door is closed

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Close the door fully, or touch "Mute Alarm" on touchscreen models. If it keeps returning with the door shut, look for a drawer or bin that stops the door from closing, a folded gasket, or a door panel that has shifted on its hinge.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • A door that will not stay flush after panel installation needs hinge and panel adjustment done with the unit secured in its cutout.
  • If the message appears with the door firmly closed, the door switch or its wiring has to be tested at the control board.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Door Alarm FAQ

The guides only describe muting the tone for the current opening; the alert comes back the next time a door is left open, which is intentional.

On a flush, panel-ready column a panel only a few millimeters out of line can keep the gasket from sealing, so check the reveal around the door before suspecting the switch.
